Never played this one. Looks like it takes a lot of patience!
Nice performance! What kind of controller did you use? It sounds very clicky
I didn't think this one would ever be maxed out, Congratulations!
Minor cor rection: final score is actually 40,830
Will skip for now....
Hi Kernzy -- you shorted yourself by 1k.
I'll skip for now...
@theBaz -- I'd like one of these Edladdin "Super Twin 78" controllers......
http://edladdin.com/Atari-2600-7800-Controllers_c2.htm
If you win the 7800 console, are you going to start playing on real hardware? Do you collect any game carts?
I have a hard time with these Burger Time/Beef Drop type games. But I do enjoy them!
This looks like a peach start, if I'm seeing things correctly. I'll skip for now....
Voting Yes.
What kind of controller set-up did you use for this?
I have this cart, but don't think I've played it. How do you like the game?
Good timing. Mario Bros is the first game be played in the new 2600 High Score Club season on AtariAge!
@RaymanC -- Thanks, man! Only good enough for second place, though.
I'll have to get set up for videotaping and then try for the top score....
This shooter is about as basic as it gets, but it's still one of my favorites!
Thanks, Oyamafamily! I'm very much looking forward to the new 2600 season on AA. I hope to do better this time around, but there will probably be a lot of competition. Speaking of which, isn't it about time you won the 2600 HSC season?
Actually, the pause switch kit is available from the AtariAge store!
Here's the link
https://www.atariage.com/store/index.php?l=product_detail&p=953
I don't have a pause switch for the 2600 either, but I think I remember seeing a kit for installing one, possibly through Best Electronics, but I'm not sure. But I don't know if it's permitted for use in tournaments on sites like this or on AtariAge. When I play on the 7800 console, or use an emulator, I just assume that pause switch use is prohibited. Do you know off-hand?
I see you got the Harmony cart
Do you know if the 7800 version has been released?
I'm not familiar with this game....Is it a homebrew?
Haha, yeah I remember getting a nice blister playing Oink for the Atariage HSC. Never played Boxing enough to kill my thumb.
Do you have a pause switch installed on your 2600?
Awesome score, Baz. That must've been a real thumb crusher!
Not familiar with this one. How is it?
Voting "Yes", btw
Doesn't that score say 11 million rather than 111 million? Did you mistakenly put an extra digit in there or am I misreading something? I'll refrain from voting for now........
Yeah, those were some great machines! I really miss them.
By the way, voting "Yes"
Submitted for AtariAge 2600 High Score Club, moderated by the Baz. I came in 5th place for the week with this score.
Looks like you're closing in on me. I'm gonna have to start playing this again
Corrected listing (I mistakenly submitted this score as an emulated game score the first time)
I wish I would remember to use my AtariAge High Score Club scores on here. I scored over 200k during the last Juno First contest, but I'll settle for this score for now......until someone beats me, anyway. Bring on the competition! Care to counteract with a new score, Lid?
This game wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. If it weren't for the cheap deaths, it'd be much better, I believe.
The game is much easier if you look up the manual on a site like AtariAge or Videoguide
I have a CIB copy of this game, but never played it. What do you think of it?
How is this game? I've been curious about it for some time....
Awesome strategies! I don't know if I can move with sufficient speed and accuracy to employ your complex strategies, but I realize that's what you have to do to compile the big scores. I may have to settle for mediocrity on this game
Way to go, Oyamafamily!
Why even play this version? It's terrible compared to the 7800 version
Hi Gamerguy!
Good to see you over here on Highscore.com
Final score given at 14:12. No need to do any math It checks out.
The score in the screenshot reads 71,520. I'll skip for now.
Thanks, I'll have to do that some time. Right now, I got me some vote catching up to do
You can "buy moves" now? Wow. I'm sticking with retro-gaming.....
Nice score
I miss that game. Had it on my old desktop (now defunct).
No wonder why they have football riots over there in Europe!
You cheated yiourself out of points -- should be 109,575!
I'll skip for now......
I think you shorted yourself by 1k.....score looks like 46,200
You're becoming quite the Ballblazer master!
I've only played this a few times. It struck me as the kind of game that requires a lot of practice.
Hard to believe it originated with a video game.....Impressive!
Played the whole video cuz I like the soundtrack so much!
What is it?
I've been playing this one myself lately. I like it quite a bit, but I've never played any other version for comparison. Still in the 30k range, but I hope to reach my personal best of 50+k
Nice score! I can't get anywhere on this version (much prefer the 7800 version )
You shorted yourself a few points......should read 30,520
Raft Rider's a different kind of game. Get your zen on!
I have this game, but never tried it. I'll have to check it out
yeah, but aren't they all (except for the few that are too easy -- they're boring!)
That does look like a good game. I've been wondering what its like
Hi.
Your stated score does not match the score in the photo and video. I'll skip for now
"dingle-life run"?
You mean, "dingle-berry run"? Now that would be tough!
The video shows a score of 35,230. You sold yourself short again, man!
Did you get that score using the keyboard? Impressive!
You cheated yourself out of 500 points. Score is 35,930!
Yeah, they sure look fun. I enjoy watching parts of your videos
You and Oyamafamily are setting the bar awfully high for Pac games! Imposssible for me, since I always sucked at them anyways
I kind of like the game, but I definitely have to be in a patient mood in order to play it. Very slow developing!
Thanks, Baz. Not really close to my personal best, but good enough for now.
Awesome-looking set-up you have there! What are you playing on?
Dig that brain monster! Looks like a very nifty game.
I'm so glad I purchased a Stelladaptor when I first got turned on to AtariAge. Possibly the best gaming purchase i've ever made!
I've never reached the final boss!
One of my favorite 7800 titles, despite its poor reputation
Congrats Oyamafamily
It looks like the wrong picture but the correct video
I'm voting YES
@Kernzy
Thanks! I appreciate your good sportsmanship, but I think I'm headed in other directions. Just had to get some Space Invaders out of my system first.
So zero is a good score on this game? That is brutal!
Used a Logitech trak-ball on emulator. I prefer paddles on real hardware for this game.
Yeah, Bob is one of the greatest contributors to the Atari community, and a very nice fellow as well!
Looks like I need to do some dusting.....burning too much incense at the gaming altar!
@thedarkbanshee -- Thanks!
I always crave Smarties this time of year!!
@Bunsen -- Sounds nifty
I'm just starting to study Basic Programming (again!).
Is that contest on AtariAge?
Funny-looking game! I'd like to try it someday......
Yeah, I believe Oyamafamily always plays with the sound off, except in those games where sound is a critical element, such as in Dolphin or Mountain King for the 2600.
Like you, I tend to keep the sound on, albeit at a low volume. But sometimes I wonder if I'd be better off with no sound. I notice some people play music while gaming, but I think that might be distracting for me. Depends on the music, I guess.
Those sounds become unnerving after a while. Maybe Oyamafamily has something there in his tendency to play with the sound off.
Thanks. I've begun to explore the world of 8-Bit gaming, which is quite extensive, and thought I'd put up a few scores while supporting you guys with some votes.
As the European members say, "Cheers!"
It looks like you have the correct video but the wrong snapshot.
I'm voting YES anyways
The red background on the final screen indicates "Difficulty A" (Difficulty B would be blue background)
Happy Halloween!
I don't know how you stay alive when it's so fast! Amazing!
Why so tight, Oyamafamily?
I'm voting YES despite the minor error
Amazing performance!!
I've only played the 8-Bit version of this, but it's very difficult. It looks like the arcade version is quite difficult as well!
Hi NCG,
The next AA 2600 HSC season doesn't start until January. Hopefully you'll find time to play by then. Besides, with your skills, you could probably remain reasonably competitive even without putting much time into it!
I had to take a break from the HSC for a little while last season. Sometimes, life happens.
@Darrin9999 -- LOL!!
If he does, his dreams are pixelated
I also used an one-button controller, mainly to avoid the hand-cramping that's inevitable with the 7800 controller. I guess the joypad is an option, but I never could get used to the pad type controllers.
Thanks for the video
Now I see that this game is a variation on the 2600 game Astroblast. I always loved the gameplay of Astroblast, but the scoring glitch kind of spoils it for high scores. I forget how that glitch worked exactly, but it enables you to amass huge scores pretty easily. I'll have to pick up a copy of Meteor Shower from the AA store
Awesome soundtrack!!
What is that, some Carl Stallings?
Happy Halloween, everybody!
The bottom picture shows my autographed copy of Candy Catcher (#6 of 45)
Did you use the Altirra emulator before? I'm wondering how they differ
That's a really tough game! I couldn't get anywhere with it.
Nice job!
One of my favorites. We played it in the AA High Score Club a couple times in recent years.
I never tried it. Looks pretty intriguing
I think I would cheat and read the manual first, though
Don't look now, but Oyamafamily's already jumping on the Pacman thing! He'll be crackin' trophies left and right
Sorry, my sobbing icon () appeared in the wrong place! Kind of funny, though
Nice score,Sixx!
I'm playing this now, but 70k has been my best.
What kind of contoller do you use for this game? I couldn't get my paddles to work on the Stelladaptor, so I settled on a CX40 joystick
This game starts off easy (I started off at Level 1), but takes a huge jump in difficulty at level 6!
Don't panic -- I'm holding off playing games 2 thru 9
The score is next to "Total" in upper right corner.
After shooting all the aliens, the game presented these rectangular corridors and the player was supposed to shoot the gate of the given color, but I couldn't figure out how to do this before I lost my remaining ships.
I kept trying to beat Kernzy's score on this, and finally did so by a whopping 10 points!
What's with music in that game? Sounds like a 70's porno flick
Very nice score, though!
Looks like an interesting battle you guys got going here
Yeah, a 800XL would be nice. I have no idea how much they cost --- I'll have to do some snooping on ebay and the AA marketplace......
Hi Kernzy
Looks like you typed in the wrong score. I'll wait on voting for now.
I really dig the 2600 version, but I've never played any other version for comparison.
@Serious -- PacmanPlus has had that Gorf project on the backburner for a long time. He's definitely a busy guy. I really hope he gets the chance to bring that project to fruition
@Sixx -- http://atariage.com/forums/topic/230751-sd-cartridge-for-7800/
I don't know if its just my old monitor, but some of those shades of color are difficult to distinguish!
Nice score on a challenging game!
Yeah, the Mailman is the one to beat at this one. Does he participate on this site under a different name?
Got the third jewel but didn't make it back.
Fun game, albeit time consuming! Played as part of the AtariAge 8-bit High Score Club.
I just started playing Atari computer games myself! I'm starting to participate some in the 8bit HSC on AA. But mainly I want to use the Altirra emulator to study old-school Basic programming. I am studying a beginners guide written in 1982 called Instant Basic: Freeze-Dried Computer Programming
Thanks for the link!
I actually like this game, though its been a long time since I played it
Here are the top 3 scores from the AA HSC in 2011. Note that yours truly came in 3rd .......
- 40,100 (Stan) [+11]
- 38,900 (JacobZu7zu7) [+10]
- 34,800 (Gorfy) [+9]
Yeah, thanks for tying in the AA scores with your scores here -- puts things into a greater context, which I like
not familiar with this game; I'll have to check it out some time.
What do you think of it?
Sorry, Lid! I figured you wouldn't mind so much since Gorf is my namesake
Yeah, I've used Atarimania to download ROMs, but never noticed the manuals over there.
I'm currently not set up for C64, but thanks for the heads up!
They're all amazing scores. It's a tough game.
Looks like the 2600 HSC on AA won't be starting up until Jan. 10th, so I imagine we'll be bumping into each other more often over here for a few months.
Hi Scrabbler, good to see ya here!
What's your all-time best on this game?
I give you lots of credit -- I simply can't play this game!
Looks like an interesting game. Where online do you find the manual for this and other 8-bit games?
No, I'm with you, Nognir!
But I respect the ability of others to do well at this game!!
Never tried this version.....But I love the 2600 version!
I just started getting into the 8-bit games on emulator, so I'll have to try this one soon
Hi Lid
I'll have to find some time to challenge you on this one!!
I recently tried the 8-bit version for the first time on the Altirra emulator -- definitely more challenging than the 2600 version. Of course, the arcade version reigns supreme!
I've been meaning to check out this game for a long time. I like a game by the same programmer called Rasterfahndung.
How do you like A-VCS-Tec challenge?
I tip my Indians' cap to you, NCG. I tried to roll it, but kept falling short
Nice score, Lid! Hope you don't mind, but I set a goal to surpass it. But don't worry, I'm no where close so far!
I never tried this game. Does it live up to its reputation in terms of weirdness?
I think you should post your best score. Being excellent does nothing to harm the integrity of the site
