Vanguard (Atari 2600 Expert/A)

the only thing the difficulty switches do in this game are adjustments on how your ship fires. in my opinion, they are just a matter of preference and it should really be just one category. but I played this game with both switches in the "A" position so I'm entering it here. the left switch changes whether you shoot by moving the joystick alone, instead of joystick in a direction+button to fire. either way has a drawback depending on how you like to play, because your ship moves faster when not firing. so if you use autofire (like I did here) you have to actually push the button to avoid firing & speed up. the right switch determines whether your forward shot keeps firing automatically.

I have only come to the boss once in this game and died almost emeditly. I have doubts I can beat this score. I think I shall try though.

id you charge the boss shooting it works every time, it's the easiest part but you have to move up/forward
