I see ramming the enemy ship works very well. I was just trying to avoid him, should be able to do better now!
@S.BAZ:
Shield management is a big part of survival in this game. It is difficult to make an accurate shot with the lasers, and it often leaves you vulnerable without having eliminated your target. Ramming solves that problem. There are two strategies I have applied to this game: In the video above, I'm using a conservative, defense approach to maximize my survival time. I leave most of the drifting 1 point enemies on the screen to create as many obstacles between me and the shots from the lightspeed starship (the attack saucer) as possible, and I save my shield for ramming the hunter-seekers (which are eventually going to hit me, anyway, one way or another). When I was a kid, my strategy was to go for as many combo hits as possible (regardless of whether my targets were the 1 point or 3 point enemies). This more aggressive approach got me some pretty good scores, but it required lots of attempts to get a good score. I was striving to achieve a score good enough to mail in to Electronic Games magazine (which tracked UFO on their scoreboard), but never got close.
