The two versions cover pretty different scenes, which is kind of neat.
Not sure whether it's an emulator glitch or just naughty behavior in the original, but on stage 3 (the caves) you can die for no apparent reason...maybe because the enemies have an active hurtbox right when they start to spawn?
Screwed up the high score initials entry, but other than that it was a good run! :)
It looks like the shmups farm has a Saturn category in the high score thread:
And Restart Syndrome tracks Saturn together with Arcade/MAME/PS2:
This is the triple-monitor version (rom name: darius2)
I always wanted a thing called tuna sashimi.
Oh man, another Zaxxon-style arcade game!
Looks like 47220 rather than 47200
This was a good weekend for gaming!
The screenshot doesn't show what level it is :(
No video available - skipping for now
Video is unavailable - skipping for now
Played for the last week of TRAP-STGT 2017 - there were some really strong scores from some other players: https://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=61125
Holy combos, batman!
It's awesome to see so many scores lately for a fairly obscure arcade hidden gem. Nice 1cc!
Nicely done! The Dodonpachi series is glorious.
Thanks man! R-Type games are tough but awesome!
This looks pretty neat - I loved the Atari 2600 game back in the day
Video is unavailable
I couldn't enter my usual ACE initials here, so I used the phonetic equivalent (e-su)
Looks like this was on easy mode (rather than normal). The other scores were played on Normal - I think you'll want to submit a score on Normal for this category, or maybe ask for an Easy scoreboard to be added
Merry Christmas, Metro City!
Not a fantastic score...but a no-miss clear.
Thanks so much KMP and Brandon! Not the best run ever...but it was the 1cc!
It's not an easy game...but with the priestess, you have a pretty good margin of error. It helped to have some 1cc's on Youtube to refer to - to know where all the hidden items are, and to know where the good grinding spots are.
YOU ARE GREAT
Holy cow, a Mappy sequel!
You have usurped all others to become the Supreme Noser!
This was my first 1cc of Contra - and later the same day, I swung by the barcade to get a 1cc on an actual cabinet :) I think I could do a 1-life clear as long as I keep the spread shot.
Got in a quick 1-credit clear at the barcade.
Ignore the extra picture from Moo Mesa - I uploaded from the wrong folder!
Oh man, the walking sound - it's intense!
That third loop...it'll get you!
Only a private? With those initials you should be a lieutenant! :)
Wrapped the score around twice!
Such a classic game!
Video is unavailable :(
So close to victory ...
Looks like 266760 - 10 points more :)
Counter stop! Looks like you were a bad enough dude to rescue Ronnie.
That was some great Gatsbee. ;)
From a screenshot it looks terrific, especially for a TI 99/4A game...but not quite so good in motion!
Hmm... That font on the game's title screen looks just a little bit familiar.... :)
Nice score! It's great to see yet another strong shmup player submitting scores here :)
FFsplit is a free video recorder that has worked well for me; it might be worth a try if you haven't used it before.
Another option is to save an INP file (with the -record option to mame), those files are much smaller than videos.
That score is grrrrRRRREEAT!
Nice! A tough game but a classic.
Nicely done! Clearing that first course is nothing to sneeze at.
I still remember walking out of this movie and agreeing with my friend: "Not enough streets. Not enough fighting." :)
Frying over a jungle! :)
Nicely done! :)
The last boss is rough - only the shield force / bomb / shield force combo kept me alive through some of his patterns, even after a lot of savestate practice.
The key to success is to punch evil portraits to make babies run out of a mirror, then collect babies until you turn into a muscly kung fu guy. Very logical.
CONGRATULATION. Not congratulations plural - just one. We don't want to run out of them :)
Nicely done! Killing the sinistar, even once, is not easy.
Looks like 1614280? (Granted, that's 100 points out of 1.6 million...)
Looks like a typo - 82604890
Final score visible at 24:29 - after that is the credits sequence
Apparently this was a sequel to Rastan? I really like the original Rastan (although I was always terrible at it). And "Nastar" is "Rastan" spelled backwards...almost.
Cutting it just a little close on the last stage.
Looks like 28800?
A slightly higher score than the previous best ;)
A key to scoring is to collect Water, Stone, and Fire treasures (in that order) from the three levels. After clearing all three, you get a huge combination bonus for having the right treasures in the right order. (Even if the treasures alone were worth 0 points, which can happen if the RNG decides to troll you)
Looks like 6,926 (not 6,785)?
Wh4t a 1337 sc0re, d00dz!
It's not on Steam, but available for pay-what-you-want on itch.io: https://mix256.itch.io/twin-tiger-shark
I'm at least a month behind on voting but I'll try to catch up :)
Nicely done! That's a lot of loops.
I think there's a typo in the score - from the photo it is 459253470
An impressive run.
Ah, I see - the last digit is after the decimal place.
That looks like 2562 and not 256?
It was a blast - if you ever end up in the Salt Lake area I recommend swinging by the Game Grid arcade :)
This is a pretty easy game, once you learn it, other than the last stage! (The last boss is doable; the last stage is madness)
Yes, that's me in the reflection.
Finally cleared the first loop after several credits getting the hang of it.
Sorry for the dismal picture quality - should have held the card closer to the screen to keep both in focus!
It's not much of a score, but it's mine. Played at the Game Grid arcade in Utah, a nice arcade featuring a DariusBurst cabinet (!)
Rom set "outzonea". A 1-credit clear (loop at around 20:45).
Feel free to share this on Youtube - I don't think it's an amazing score but its #1 for now! :)
Final score visible at 1:03:26 and after credits at 1:08:07
Sly Spy - it's not a James Bond game, but it's getting as close to James Bond as it can without getting sued!
I cleared this to play along with the 2016 1cc marathon - Spinmaster and Sly Spy are both *easy* 1ccs. In Sly Spy you have just one life, but there are several enemies that drop a life-up item (a coca-cola can!) This is especially easy in the driving section, and the Odd Job and diving-suit bosses.
Hello Kitty meets Bomberman? That's a weird combination but it looks cute.
"HELP! THAAANK YOUUUU!"
A great game with a great soundtrack - so much nostalgia!
This is a relatively easy 1-credit clear. (The extra lives, plus the ability to survive one hit, make it pretty forgiving). The difficulty level reminds me a bit of Black Tiger.
If you want extra motivation to clear games, there's always Backloggery.com :)
It is the 2010s...and there is time for Klax!
My 25th 1-credit clear of an arcade game.
Is that a description of the Star Wars Christmas Special in the background? :)
Nice 1-life clear!
This game has such a rockin' soundtrack.
This is a good cute-em-up. Difficulty level is not super high, especially if you use the charged punch a lot to clear out bullets and whatnot.
I had another run today where I finally cleared the special stage(!) but the final score was lower. This is still my best score.
A classic! I remember clearing this a couple of years ago when I got back into shmups.
This is a classic - dig those crazy FM synth sounds.
Ow, my ears!
Score run starts at 3:55. An easy 1cc, if you are good at mashing and get the hang of the enemy AI (hiding on a corner and shooting diagonally is often the answer).
23 hours of gaming in 4 days, that sounds like a long weekend back in college... :)
Nice - and SO CLOSE to clearing that last level
Nicely done! I was happy just to clear the first loop.
Played as part of RetroLeague (http://w11.zetaboards.com/RetroLeague/) season 43. This is not a game that has aged well, but it has some charming touches.
Is it 0:00:53.20 and not 0:00:53?
Good old boulderdash! There was a PC game called Supaplex that was like an extended remix. It was fun but it really, really needed a rewind / undo button.
Argh, you made me play this game again!
The competition heats up!
Died at 2-4; Kohful and Silver's ship is super strong and just tears through bosses.
I saved an .inp, but unfortunately it desyncs - it looks like the random number seed depends on the nvram contents, and I can't a video - should have just used ffsplit :/
Looks like final score is 55700?
It looks like there is a high score list for each difficulty level, but also just for Tapper with no difficulty specified - is that redundant? Anyway, that's some impressive drink service.
If you're ever looking for more PC shmups - Jamestown and Crimson Clover are easy recommendations. And Jigoku Kisetsukan is free and excellent (very similar to the Touhou games)
A very pretty and polished R-type clone. This came out on Steam semi-recently. The regular difficulty is a manageable 1cc, and the "Hard" difficulty is a huge leap up in challenge.
Shmup fans are a special breed :)
No autofire used. The game does have built-in rapid fire. If you hold down the fire button, you fire steadily for about a second (and then stop). So if you tap and hold the button once every second or so you fire quickly.
Welcome - good to see another familiar face from RetroLeague!
Huh... The high score going in was 9470 and that's the score you ended up with...was that on purpose or just a coincidence?
This game has a very unforgiving drop height - it looks like one of the few games where you can't survive as long a fall as you can in real life.
A classic! I remember playing the DOS version of this.
I got Dream Pinball 3D in a bundle. Here's a quick and probably-easy-to-beat score.
I'll take your word for it - I see you've hit 1 million on this game :)
The 2600 version seems harder than the C-64 version to me (but maybe just because I practiced more on the C-64 version).
Expert mode (A/A) starts at ~0:10 and ends around 11:10.
Novice game (B/B) starts at ~11:10.
After playing, I'm not quite sure if the two modes are actually different on this game. If they are, it's subtle.
The intermissions look very funny sped up, especially the stork delivering the baby super fast. "Here's-a-baby-folks-ok-bye!"
I may need to go back and try the Atari 2600 version now. I think the Atari version may be the better version. I like the clean colorful look of the Atari graphics better than the the more detailed but muddy C-64 version.
No worries :)
"Oh, Kirby, what will you do?" Beat up everybody, while looking adorable!
Yes - it's on steam, or just at http://www.supercratebox.com/
Made by the same folks who went on to make Nuclear Throne!
This is delightfully incomprehensible :)
Gradius asks for sex and zodiac sign. At least none of the games have asked for the last 4 digits of my social security number...
The Youtube video doesn't play back for me - message says it contains content from "Wixen Music Publishing" :(
It's a pinball-themed pinball game? Pinball inception!
Blazing Star is great. "BONUS!"
Looks like it is 49,147 (higher than 41,147)?
"Congratulation". They didn't give out congratulations, just one single congratulation :)
Congrats - now I'm going to have to circle back and try to beat this :)
Black Tiger - played as part of Yolympics 2016. Needs less dying, and more leeching, to get a really high score.
Those rainbow wires though...
Played as part of Yolympics 2016
Nice! A typical win (not going for score) is only about 8 million.
It looks like a lot of the extra money comes from leeching - but the level time (and lives) are limited, so the point milking can only go on so long,
"It puts the balls into the basket. I mean, the lotion."
Chorensha is awesome - there's a freeware verison for PC, too
Looks like 17270 (70 points higher)?
1337700...what a 1337 score.
It's so Twinbee-ish!
Looks like 776800 not 776680 (typo)
9:45 This is what comes of riding your bike indoors!
I remember playing this at a sleep-over many years ago. "Grab him and push buttons!"
Can't believe nobody's posted a score for this yet - it's free, and it's pretty good!
Restarts at 6:26 :)
This looks like it is Stone Mine II, and not Stone Mine? (At least going by the title screen; I don't know these games)
Played as part of the RGF Shmup League. Already there was a higher score posted from someone who finished two loops(!), but I'm content with this. It's a pretty easy 1cc, but when it loops it takes all your gold and extra lives away, which is a little harsh.
"Well...Welcome to Fuzzball!"
I think he might be Q*Bert's long-lost cousin.
Added a video - good stage 1 example to follow (but bad, bad stage 2 example)
Raiden Fighters 2 (Japanese version - rdft2j) was the final game of RetroLeague season 40, so I circled back to post a score.
This webpage has a walkthrough for how to trigger 100k(!) medals on the airport stage. It takes practice, but it's doable. That makes the rest of the game way more lucrative. http://rf-emporium.ghegs.com/rf2/stage1.htm
What a cute little game!
"Beware! I live!"
Thais isn't Super Castlevania on the SNES...it looks like a Gameboy game?
Looks like score is 160590 - not much different, but hey, 10 points is 10 points...
Only one congratulation. But if you clear mission 3 you might get congratulations plural :)
Yes, last month was some serious NES-ing :)
Mushihimesama! I just got this on Steam and I love it.
Not sure what caused the squishing of the video, but hopefully it's still viewable.
That is the tallest, skinniest front door...it's like it's in Panavision.
The course is in "W.Germany" - wow.
But you still got a CONGRATULATIONS !!!! with four exclamation points!!!1!1
Rendering Ranger! This came up in RetroLeague one or two seasons back, and I scraped out a 1cc of it. It really is a good game, even better than you'd think from the first level.
It's not good enough to sell minor organs just to buy the cart though :)
It looked like you were totally punching the big guy in the crotchular region, yet he was unstoppable.
This game looks like a totally shameless knock-off of Amidar :)
This design reminds me a little of the TI 99/4a boot screen...
"Elf needs food...badly!"
Yeah, Black Tiger!
This game is bonkers. Not that hard to clear - although the burger boss and last boss took practice. (Last boss will re-inflate his balloon if you don't egg him fast enough)
Note: This game's name backwards is LIVE RATS.
That video has a looooooong time on the game over screen :)
(That's weird that the name came through as Pïnball (with an umlaut) and not Pinball)
Impressive! This looks like a tough game.
If you zoom your browser window in it should get clear. (On Chrome on my computer you can hold ctrl and hit + a few times to zoom in; your mileage may vary on another browser or OS)
(It's so much like Marble Madness!)
My cousins had this back in 1984 or so, and I remember being excited to play it when we went to visit them. The game reminds me of Astro Blaster, with the fuel limit and variety of enemy wave types.
Oh, this game. You can't swim diagonally down + right for some reason, and the jellyfish on level 3 often instantly disappear after spawning...it's a true Action 52 "treasure". :)
Thanks :) This game is not as easy as it seems at first...
The audio sounds like a band that would open for Kraftwerk.
Looks like the score even reached 126250?
Is that a Klax hand on the last level? That is bizarre...
Looks like final score is 92902
Thanks I love this game.
Sqoon gives out so many extra lives. There are two 1ups before the very first enemies even appear - one for shooting the sea slug 10 times, one for flying past the cross on the church. And then later in stage 1 you get another for picking up the surfer...
A new-and-improved score, reaching stage 6 of the second loop! This is it from me unless I go really crazy and decide to try for two loops.
Removing this score in favor of a higher one :)
It's a pretty fun game and an easy-ish 1cc. There are several hidden extra lives.
At 9:23 - The table is pac-man shaped. I love that touch.
Ah - the game loops back to 1-1 after the end. That explains the Scooby-Doo mystery.
How did you get all those goodies by stage 1-2?
Impressive! Look for my new score soon
I introduced a friend to Borderlands 2 recently, so at the end of stage 2 I couldn't stop thinking "They're coming outta the wall-sphincters!"
First life ends at 3:37
I signed up at RU and figured I might as well double-dip and get scores in both places :)
This game is not too bad...but recovery from losing a life is the worst. It makes Gradius recovery seem like puppies and ice cream by comparison.
Recca is so good.
There's a thread on shumps.system11 with strategy, which recommends using Laser and Smart pods...which seems to work: http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=5286&p=528525
It even has medal chaining!
I wonder...Is DangerStu related to Disco Stu from the Simpsons?
Yes - more movies should end just after the boss battle. The movie Police Story has a great climactic kung fu fight, fighting through a mall (and destroying much of it in the process). Good times.
That is an epic freak-out at 53k. Poor physics engine got confused!
Original flavor or remake? The commercials in the original were awesome; I think they inspired some of the dark commercial-break humor in Starship Troopers and Starcraft.
From the screen at around 0:09 it looks like this difficulty is "Harder" not "Hardest"?
But *why* did the chicken cross the road? :)
Poor Mappy does not survive falls from long distances well.
I need to take on Battletoads sometime too...
Score at 7:50
Sounds like the dogs are cheering you on :)
It looks like the final score is 4905. You don't want to miss out on those extra 100 points in the dog-eat-dog world of competitive Cry Baby playing. :)
The good run starts at 2:09
The good run starts at 15:30
The panda is a 1up!
PC Engine soundtracks sound so smooth...
Coryoon is a very easy game to clear - it shows up on a lot of people's 1cc lists. It's still pretty fun :)
That pause sound effect - it's a sound from Street Fighter 2.
It's nice that they got Frank from accounting to record some voiceover lines :)
That is an impressive dig-dug run!
It would have been tempting to reset and start again after losing a life in round 2...but then it turned out to be a huge score.
(Ignore the first video link, it's a link to the youtube homepage - copy/paste error)
First a shotgun man tries to kill you for making too much noise...then a submarine kills you after it had already blown up. A rough day.
Final score at 22:47
Because the song is stuck in my head already...why not some more Duck Tales?
Difficult is almost the same as Normal; the one difference I noticed is that the invincibility M coins are replaced.
Apparently you are not a bad enough dude to save the president.
They could have called it "Duet"
It looks like "Story Time Record" sorts from smallest to largest on Kongregate...is this the best or the worst possible score?
Protip: The planets with the yellow outlines are solid, you can't crash into them.
Even better protip: Avoid playing this game :)
The prisoner you rescue is a man of few words: "Thanks."
The giant at 4:48 cracks me up...
Wizard on level 4 is brutal in the arcade version too!
Looks like 176100 not 176300?
Uh-oh, looks like I'm going to need a better score to stay in the running :)
No kuku kube, thank goodness :)
It's pretty fun! Konami was on a roll in those days (late 80s and early 90s)
That last life :(
He is "Your friendly neighborhood".
I remember playing this back in 2006 and having trouble getting past stage 4 or so. Since then I played some other shmups, and now it doesn't seem so tough to clear...by shmup standards.
Trivia point: CAPtain COMmando is how CAPCOM got its name :)
A port that's a little painful by comparison with the arcade original. (Not as bad as the Atari 2600 version of Pac-Man, but...)
Looks like final score is 26920?
Protip: Shoot the sea slugs a lot.
It's an irem game with submarines - but it's not In The Hunt :)
I did not spot that last bottle sitting on top of the truck...
Life is like a hurricane.
That last ball was the Hero Ball :)
Love the "EUUGH!" voices from the bad guys.
That S thing at the end totally does like a power-up...
It is the 2010s and there is time for KLAX
Toilet kids - where every score is a number two score!
It's so tiny! Just readable.
(Is that Fallout wallpaper in the background?)
Re-submitting, since the first submission (deleted) was accidentally submitted for Duck Tales 2.
I saw the top score for Easy was lower than the top score for Normal, so I decided to fix that.
I saw that the "easy" high score was lower than the "normal" high score, so I decided to fix that.
I'm about to post a better score - with video this time! :)
Killed by a Windows 10 update notification :/
If you don't have the high score in 30 minutes or less, your pizza is free.
A great run - doing this all on one life would stress me out!
Zen has discovered the hallway of infinite 100-point robots.
Boomerang Kid goes on an epic journey to collect his boomerangs.
(But wait...if they're boomerangs, then by definition, shouldn't they have returned on their own!?)
This photo looks like it's actually Super Robin Hood (also from Quattro Adventure)
3.5 hours...that's a lot of contra!
What a weird and disturbing train boss...
What a weird game...
Giga Wing is a game of big numbers :)
Apparently someone has scored over 210 trillion:
Nice run of a great game. Death was no match for the Stand In The Corner strategy!
