Wal-Mart in SW Ohio
Sorry I couldn't get a pic of the enttire arcade, it is extremely dark in there and lots of brats running wild in the place.
It was nice to play an arcade version of this game, though the colors were off and the joystick felt unresponsive when going up and left. (The gameplay was still solid, the machine is probably ready to go to arcade heaven.) The game certainly seems harder than the 7800 version I'm used to playing.
Well I just picked this one up on a trade, but I have the FB5 with added paddle controller. I just thought I'd give it a test drive.
Guess it isn't a holy cow.
Nice, another Dungeon Stalker player. This game deserves more love. Great score.
Those last two votes always take a while, so yes, enjoy it while it lasts, MWAHAHAH! LOL
The troll(s) really loved our scores this time around, eh?
I think our troll buddy created multiple accounts, I got slammed with negative votes about 3pm Eastern time.
I don't get too bent out of shape over it, personally, but I know others do and are trying to sniff out the troll, so I thought I'd report my findings.
I just tried a round of millipede. Wow, they even managed to screw that one up! This thing is a joke.
It is crazy. The Flashback 1 is definitely flawed. Adventure was really screwed up and that burns me up.
Well now I know.
The controllers aren't too bad, though, all things onsidered.
The Flashback 1 version may look like the 7800 game but certainly doesn't play like it.
Holy crap the Flashback 1 version of Desert Falcon is horrible!
And now a third troll? Or maybe the same one using multiple accounts?
Two trolls hit this one, one with the usual "don't trust sumitter due to reutation" and a second with "Can't see the score" (LOL on that onne.) Did Mr. Troll find a friend?
It seems Mr. Troll is active already, 3:15pm Eastern time.
I didn't bother with video with this one since easy mode is the easiest mode. The diffivulty ramps up in a hurry on this one, by hole 7 I thought I was in Kamikae mode.
I just wanted to be the first to submit a score. I haven't invested much time into this game, it kicks my butt every time. I managed to get further in Kamikaze than in Hard mode.
Oh, and I've never gotten this far before. I don't think I've ever gotten to the level where you face two fortresses in a row in my life.
I have a full SD card on my phone so I didn't start recording until I already surpassed the current record. Also, I wasn't prepared for filming so I just put the phone on my stomach while I played.
I figured recording video was necessary since Xevious lacks a high score screen and you thus can't see the settings when you see the score.
Didn't really try here, just wanted to get a first trophy for this mode.
I never drink, I'm straight edge. But it seems my smartphone is in need of an intervention.
I just got lucky somewhat. On all the Atari Dig Dug games, I've learned that if I push the button towards the enemy as I push the fire button, let go of the joystick then push towards the enemy again while hitting the fire button again, I can inflate the enemies faster than if I just hold the direction button while continuously pressing the fire button. Of course, this is harder to pull off on these Atari 5200 controllers since they aren't self centering. But when it does work, I'm able to kill up to 3 enemies coming at a tunnel towards me. This game is good, the only problem with it that makes it inferior to the other version is that you can't drop rocks on the monsters as they're passing through the ground. That fact killed me early in the game. I was down to my last life at 30k, thus, I'm really fortunate to have gotten into a groove.
Looks like Mr. Troll has been active in the hour since I posted this score.
My strategies for playing Dig Dug work almost as well on the Atari 5200. This is a very impressive port.
I'm just happy to have gotten a copy. I asked CollectorVision if they had any copies yet despite their website stating it was discontinued and they said they did. Beats buying it for $200 on feeBay.
I just noticed that I also received the same negative vot due to reputation as well. However, thy aren't stopping my scores being voted legit so they're wasting time.
Most of you that have been here a while are tight knit, so here's an idea, maybe when some folks who come and regularly post proven scores, they can reach a level where you would need a higher number of bad votes to have a score rejected. Just a though.
I've been here a year, and quite frankly, when I see some folks who've been here when I first arrived and are regular, trusted posters, I do get lazy and just auto-vote yes.
Seems to me most of the fake score problems revolve around phone games or that Google Image Breakout game
I wouldn't sweat the one or two trolls here. At any rate, there's no way to game this system as far as I can tell, so there's no reason to vote no on submissions for this game. . It seems to me they made their own version of the game, or if it is emulated, it is a version I've never played before.
Well, at least if you buy them together, it is free shipping. The price of shippin would be great if someone bought them and shipped them for you.
PS: If you want one then don't hesitate, people are buying them up and reselling them for twice as much on eBay.
If you're lucky, your local Walmart still has them for $20. If so, they'll be in the Toy section where those square headed collectibles and puzzles are.
It is REALLY hard to take a good pic of such a tiny screen.
This game jumps in difficulty real quickly. It seems once you hit 35k, centipede drinks some Red Bull. I was lucky enough to have a funnel to kill the Centipedes before hitting 35k. If someone beats this score, I'd never be able to do it again.
If anyone in America wants these, better get one when you find one. eBayers are buying up yje last of them and selling them for twice as much. i found a Qbert one today but not a Centipede.
There's only one way to master this game. Master the elbow. If you get quick enough and work on the timing, you can move up and hit them with an elbow just as they are getting up. Funny enough, Abobos get up the quickest and Linda the slowest.
32TH place? How does one pronounce that?
All things considered, this isn't THAT bad of a game.
Yes my score sucks but it was great to finally figure out this game. Maybe someday I'll try for a higher score.
But at least I didn't post a pic of a cat using the litter box or something.
Yes but where will non-FB get their hands on this game?
I've caught up on voting.
This game is terrible!
This was my first time playing, and without reading the manual before playing, I had no clue what I was doing. I probably would've scored higher but got a cheap death on my second fighter.
I don't see anywhere in the manual that says there is a difference in difficulty, but I pretty much keep my Atari set to novice/ lower difficulty by default.
At any rate, this is a pretty cool game. I'm shocked it hasn't gotten more love here.
Not bad for my first time playing.
So apparently Android phones take the same sideways pics as Windows phones.
In regards to Desert Falcon, you kill the Sphinx by getting a direct hit on the face. I think it only takes one hit but if you aren't quick and lined up just right and do it before it starts spitting enemies or bullets, then it is difficult. There is a Heiroglyph combo to kill the Sphinx but I misplaced my notes,, and I'm not sure if the Hlyph combos are the same on other versions, I've always played the 7800 version.
Your video is "unavailable."
Thanks. When I run emulation I always use default settings. To be honest, I don't know how to manipulate settings anyways.
Also, this was actually my first time playing this game ever.
Do the flamethrowers actually do anything, though?
I should've invested in one sooner. It was certainly worth the money. And Red and Green are my favorite colors.
This version takes a lot of getting used to.
What a difference a controller makes. With a regular joystick, I can't even pass stage 3.
Mouse Trap is actually way harder to play on those discs. It is hard to stop the mouse when it needs to turn down a different path, so I learned to just tap the disc (the "mouse pad"?) to make it move one space.
This version has red, white, and blue doors and 1,2,3 control the doors in the order I mentioned the colors, which I thought was interesting. Would you believe this is actually my first time playing?
This one is A/V modded, of course. I'll probably use this for many of my high score submissions in the future because you can see the difficulty switches. I like the look of it.
It is pretty much a hack of Venture but it does capture thhe essence of Wolfenstein. There is even a secret ninth level and if you can beat it, i'm sure you could crack even this high score.
AtariAge sells copies for $20 plus shipping under "2600 hacks"
Controllers do make a difference. I just ordered an Edladdin controller so hopefully I'll have it soon.
I did flip the score on Pac-Man but the game setting was 5, not 6, so I'm waiting for the powers that be here to add that category so I can post it. I wasn't expecting to flip the score but I was talking on the phone with someone and just kind of gotten into a groove. I figured out a pattern for the fast moving Pac Man.
Maybe soon I can develop a pattern for slow moving pacman since the ghosts eventually outrun Pac-Man.
Wow, there's one trophy that won't be cracked any time soon.
This is my busy time of the year. Nebraska, DC, Florida, everywhre but home.
This has become one of my favorite homebrew games.
I believe that's the general consensus for this game.
The game doesn't suck, it is just hard. ET's energy drains fast, and even after you collected the parts of the phone to "phone home," your pickup can be interrupted by the FBI agent or scientist.
Your video disappeared just like DB Cooper did.
Damn, I had finally developed a pattern and was in a groove but got distrcted by a text message. Oh well, I finally broke 100k.
I have the standard Genesis pad and a Quickshot Genesis controller, a TAC, a Euro Pad, and of course, a variety of run of the mill Atari controllers. But I tend to use the Quickshot for game playing because I'm a lefty and most classic controllers gave us lefties the shaft.
Just go out and get a Genesis controller. Genesis does what Nintendon't, and with this game, you don't even need the Genesis-to-7800 adapter.
You beat me by a "nose" BTW. Heh.
Well I've been playing a lot of PS4 games lately, ones that lack scores, like Uncharted 4, Doom, Dragon Quest, etc.
I'm so close to completing my 7800 collection, missing just Ninja Golf and Tank Command as far as first generation NTSC games go. I'm also waiting on AtariAge to release those new 7800 games they've been tempting me with. I just got some new homebrews and waiting on whoever is in charge here to add new gams to the high score list (I have a copy of Conjoined for the 2600 so I can hopefully be the first to post a score, LOL).
I pop in every couple of weeks when I'm not busy and catch up on voting. I've just been really busy lately.
Thanks. I just haven't been breaking too many scores lately. I've been working on beating games for my more modern systems plus I recently acquired a working 5200 so I might be posting a few scores from that soon.
No way will I devote 8+ hours to beat the high score. I'm fortunate I can get ET home once.
I got it for maybe $15 on eBay.
Should be noted game 1 is the default mode. Both difficulty switches to novice.
Finally escaped from Castle Wolfenstein! I haven't found the secret level yet, though. Maybe next time.
Was testing out this modded 2600. Whoever modded it didn't do the greatest job, the sound buzzes and the video doesn't really seem like much of an improvement.
Wow I've never even heard of an Oric-1.
I do come in and vote every couple of weeks or so, so yes, I'll get around to it when I arrive.
It took a lot to finally get to get this sucker to work. First, I had to get a ono-to-stereo headphone jack so it would connect to a modern device. I only had a 7800 so I acquired a 2600 Jr, but the screen looked really fuzzy, so I got a regular 2600 (I traded some PS3 and Wii games in plus some cash for a "promotional use only" 2600). I had some of the actual cassettes, but no cassette player, so i went online and I found "Stella Gets a New Brain," but the mp3s wouldn't work, so I used an online mp3 to WAV converted and it allowed me to change stereo to mono sound, and now it plays great. What a pain the the you-know-what. At any rate, i'll be posting some Starpath scores. This was my first crack at this game.
Don't worry, I will.
I have no idea what you are even asking. I don't know that much about the system.
Just wanted to show off the sweet deal I got. Working Intellivision with over a dozen games CIB w/ all the overlays for $50.
Obviously, I love Burgertime.
Watching the vids of other folks playing improved my ability playing this game. Maybe i'll roll the score before long.
You have the actual machine gun controller? Nice.
I thought I was going to go on forever but this stage was just too much. The difficulty certainly spiked for this level.
Master the elbow, stand slightly below the topmost enemy, hit them when they get within range, and as soon as they drop, move in and time another elbow. Once you get the timing down, taking out any enemy is easy. On the downside, if you mess up even once, you could get beat up even by Linda.
If you move diagonally away from a knife thrower you can avoid the knife. Same with Abobos throwing drums.
I may get around to posting a video of me actually beating the game. I hadn't played in in 25 years and this was my first crack at it. But I have work to do so I'll not be posting much for a while.
Thanks. I still prefer the real deal to emulation but I don't have a physical copy but even eBay doesn't post up many copies.
On a Genesis pad, the B button will act as the fire button for the 2600.
I have an Edladdin adapter for the few 7800 games that use both buttons. On that, the C button acts as the right fire button and the B button acts as the left fire button. Best $25 I ever spent.
Next time, maybe. Where I went wrong is I had a few occasions where I got sloppy and started losing lives. The level marker ends at 125, so i'll have to go back and count the number of successful level finishes to know just how many more levels there are. I'm guessing 255 just like in pac Man. I could be wrong though.
I couldn't say. I haven't played other versions of this game. i will say this much-- the gameplay is pretty good. i'm not that good at them, though. I got lucky on this round.
Just in case there are any USC fans here, this is what the scoreboard is going to look like for your first game this season. Roll Tide Roll :p
What I noticed about this game is if you pass all the levels A-Z, it bumps you up to the next level. Once I got to the later stages of Advanced mode I really started to struggle.
This wasn't a game I saw as a kid but I would have enjoyed it if I did. But since I already spent 2 hors on it on different mode I didn't want to invest half the night in it becuse this is one game you have to record to prove your score, because when I went A-Z in standard mode mode and died halfway through the second run, the title screen said i was on "Advanced mode" even though I had played in standard, so I assume the game just bumped me up after clearing all the levels.
Considering the 7800 cartridge's limittions it is still an impressive game.
I just decided to stop playing after 50 minutes.
It is pretty fun. Hard as hell, but fun to play. I never even seen the arcade version before until today.
Took a while but I made it to stage 6. I can't figure out how to get past those boulders!
Addendum: The score for Mouse Trap "flips" at 10,000 points; thus 13,289 appears to only be 3289.
I rolled over the score once in this video:
10,000 points @ 1:17.
I have Missile Command but no trackball. I may get around to it but you set the bar pretty high.
If you don't want to se a chokefest and hear me grumble, the high score game starts at about 3:48
Makes me want to play Paperboy....
Thanks. (Only took a few dozen tries. Damn spiders.)
I'm not that good at racing games. Funny thing is, I actually prefered to play the 2600 version as a kid.
I swear I hit this exact score five times in a row! This must be the most one can get on this track.
Thanks. I used to play this game to death as a kid.
Hopefully he is distracted enough not to notice. Heh.
Well crap. At least now I know what the earth shield is for now. i'm just glad it wasn't a glitch or something.
I haven't read the manual for this game, but I do have a copy of it around hee somewhere...
I just wanted to see if I could get the score closer to 99,999 than the other guy. I missed it by only 210.
It is like the Price is Right, get it as close to 99,999 without going over.
This is the Sears Tele-Games cartridge. I know it isn't that much like Pac Man but when I was a kid, my next door neighbors had the game and since I was the runt, I rarely got to play it, so it was a treat when I finally got to play.
Hey you forgot to actually post your score
I wouldn't know why that is happening, since I use an actual 7800 and haven't tried emulation for it yet. From what I understand, emulation for the 7800 is far from perfect, but then again, I've seen a couple of strange glitches on my 7800 system.
The only system I have emulated on my computer is NES, and I'm using FCEUX for that one rather than MESS.
There are a couple of things I need to mention with my score submission.
First, my phone decides it will only record for a maximum of 60 minutes, so I had to pause the game, upload the video to my laptop, then delete the video from my phone, and start up recording again.
Second, I had been playing through standard level, and I made it through all 26 stages and made it to Level "P" on the second runthrough before I finally died. Oddly, when it went back to the title screen, it says "advanced" rather than "standard." Apparently, if you make it through all 26 stages, the game moves you up to the next difficulty level automatically. That is weird. Thus, I had to post the entire run so you could see that for yourself.
Not sure if you can see my reply. I found a problem with my submission. At any rate, the right button is only for bombs if you have any in your inventory. It is just like Gauntlet for the NES or arcade.
Sorry posted this in the wrong setting.
Now my videos are recording sideways too? My phone is acting stupid now.
Yes. The Olympic games are murder on controllers because many of the games require pushing left-right-left-right as fast as possible, and Winter Games was death to my controllers in my youth. Whoever thought that was a great idea was an idiot.
I use a Genesis pad with an Edladdin Genesis-to-7800 adapter. It works great for the handful of games that utilized both buttons.
The actual score is 181.30 but it won't allow me to add decimal points so this was the only way to add the score.
Please note the actual score is 7.4, not 74. However, the score entry won't allow me to add a decimal point.
Since I'm trying to get in few more submissions before the contest ends, I spent yesterday morning rearranging my game area so my 7800 can be front and center. If only I can get over that hump of just a few more voters, some of my submissions are stuck at four or five votes shy.
I don't know if this is part of the game itself or just a glitch, but I was playing this game waaaay better than usual. i actually beat a boss for once and made it very far into the game. About 25 minutes into the game, my three extra lives went to zero. Obviously, I was too busy dodging aliens to notice, so when I died, I got a game over instead of getting another life. I'm disappointed that I made it so far only to lose all my lives unexpectedly.
I apologize for the crap video but it shows up great on my Nokia Windows 8 phone and I can see it plain as day. Right around the time I hit 475,000 points, my lives went from 3 to 0.
It should be noted whether folks choose 3 player or 5 player start. Here I used 3 to start.
Yes, sorry about that. I had to convert the film on video software to highest resolution. I didn't want to give up on posting this score because even with my Dig Dug strategy I still struggled to beat the high score. Took me a couple dozen tries, I kept making mental mistakes and it took me two days to get a high enough score. I think the current high was just under 200k and I died at 193k on my last run.
Working on it. I love this collection. Ms Pac Man- Random mazes set to random friut is my favorite mode.
I'm not sure if it has anything to do with what kind of 7800 you have. Mine isn't the oldest 7800, the one that can play Robot Tank. Maybe they can't handle a Genesis controller? Just a guess. I've been using an Edladdin Genesis-to-7800 adapter so the C button runs the right fire button and the B button runs the left fire button. I had an off-brand Genesis pad that didn't work. The one I use is a standard official Genesis pad. I use it mostly to preserve the authentic 7800 controllers I have. I didn't want to ruin them playing the Atari olympic games.
I've been playing it but my scores aren't good. Yet.
I'm working on it, but as a kid I only had Winter Games so I've had a bit more experience with it. These games are murder on joysticks so thank goodness for Genesis pads.
The score is 229.5 but it would not recognize decimal points.
Also, I don't know how to fix the fact these pics load up sideways. It shouws up properly on my Windows computer.
I did. By the way, the pics still uploaded sideways even though I uploaded it to my computer and made sure the pics were right side up.
PS: I can't prove it now, of course, because I'm almost 40, but I beat the Atari 2600 version as a kid. You have to spam the elbow move to beat that game. That game is actually harder than this one.
The Atari 7800 was my first home system so it is still my favorite system.
Next time I'll put them on my computer first before uploading.
My pic looks fuzzy as heck too, hope folks can read it.
Thank you. I learned a trick or two other than that spin kick spam move to make the game just a little easier. It is a little hard for me to explain, but i'll try, for those who want to play this game later.
If you move your character up and down the enemies will match you by moving up and down, but eventually, one of the enemy fighters will slowly move up slightly then walk around behind you. While they are walking slowly past you, you can walk up and kick the daylights out of them. It works on everyone, even Abobo and Willy. It even works in the narrow walkways. I was aware of the "knife trick" (hold the knife and your kicks become as powerful as the knife) and I did utilize that on the first part of Mission 3.
i've seen others successfully pull off the spin kick spam trick on other videos but I'm not great with diagonals on the Genesis game pad (to preserve my controllers, I use a Genesis D-pad with an Edladdin Seagull 78 Controller Adapter, that thing is awesome) to play my Atari. I don't know if the difficulty switches impact gameplay any but I always keep both to the left. This was actually my first time beating it. I think it took me 20 tries to get the patterns down right. Last time, Willy shot me and I was barely 1000 points from beating the score. Ouch.
